Sabrina’s Story

Turning Challenge Into Advocacy, Strength, and Change

A powerful story of resilience that continues to shape how we advocate for dignity, awareness, and support for ostomates nationwide.

A Story That Inspires Change

Sabrina’s story is at the heart of the Ostomy Foundation’s mission.

It is a story of resilience, courage, and the determination to live fully — even in the face of unexpected medical challenges and social barriers. More importantly, it is a story that continues to drive meaningful advocacy and awareness for ostomates across the United States.

Navigating Life With an Ostomy

Like many individuals, Sabrina’s journey with an ostomy began with a medical necessity — but what followed was a deeply personal experience of adaptation, strength, and growth.

Beyond the physical aspects of surgery and recovery, Sabrina faced challenges that many ostomates encounter but are rarely talked about:

  • Misunderstanding and lack of awareness

  • Social discomfort and stigma

  • The need for support, education, and reassurance

Her experience reflects a journey shared by many individuals and families who learn to live fully and confidently with an ostomy.

From Experience to Advocacy

Sabrina’s story did not stop at personal resilience — it became a catalyst for change.

Through her experiences, it became clear that many of the challenges faced by ostomates are not just medical, but social. A lack of understanding, access, and awareness can create unnecessary barriers in schools, workplaces, and everyday life.

Her journey helped inspire a deeper commitment to advocacy, education, and ensuring that no one feels isolated or unsupported.

Advocating for Dignity and Access

Sabrina’s Story lives on through the Foundation’s advocacy efforts, including initiatives designed to support individuals facing stigma, discrimination, or barriers in their daily lives.

This work focuses on:

  • Promoting awareness and understanding

  • Supporting individuals and families navigating challenges

  • Advocating for equitable access and inclusion

  • Empowering people to live confidently and without limitation

A Story That Represents Many

While Sabrina’s story is unique, it reflects the experiences of many ostomates across the country.

At the Ostomy Foundation, we recognize that behind every diagnosis is a person, a family, and a journey that deserves dignity, support, and understanding.

Her story reminds us why this work matters — and why advocacy must continue.
